TIKI TROT

I have been receiving a few comments lately about my lack of updates and pictures for all of our goings on this summer (mainly from my mom). So I am going to try to start updating our busy past couple of weeks but in reverse order.

Last night we went to Hecker, which is about 20 minutes from our house, for the Tiki Trot. They had a kids' half mile fun run that started at 7:00. Dan and I ran along side Trent and that is probably about the farthest that I have ran in a long time as yes I know that is pathetic. Trent started off slow by running for a few seconds and then walking for a few seconds until we reached the turnaround point. Then his competitive spirit kicked in and he pretty much sprinted the final 200 meters. If it wasn't for the fact that Dan and I are his parents, I would predict that he is going to be a sprinter. After the half mile at around 8 they started the 5k Tiki Trot which Dan ran.

We had a pretty good night until the very end, we made a poor parking decision and couldn't leave until the very last runner was finished and they took down the finish line. The race was part of a city picnic where they had bingo, food stands, etc. There was a huge crowd with around 1000 people in the race plus the people at the picnic. While we were waiting to leave the electricity went off at the picnic and in the entire town. I was reminded of why I am a hermit and don't like crowds and prefer to stay safe at home in my own house!

Here is Trent with his race medal.
Trent and I running, we were going so fast we were only a blur.

Dan and Trent pre-race, This is Trent's "serious race face".
